About our Founder: “Luck only happens when preparation and opportunity meet.” Michael shares this message with youth, as it has guided his own life. Growing up in Memphis, TN, Michael Douglas developed a passion for basketball. His commitment and determination made him an exceptional player at every level. Michael excelled at Booker T. Washington High School in Memphis and became a star athlete at Dyersburg State College in Tennessee. In 1986, he seized the opportunity to try out for the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters, alongside 1,500 other talented athletes. Michael was selected as the top pick for the Harlem Globetrotters and toured with the team from 1986 to 1993, performing in over 100 countries as the 7th Showman in the history of the Harlem Globetrotters—spreading positivity and promoting diversity. In 1991, Michael founded the Michael Douglas Youth Foundation™ (MDYF) to help individuals and communities achieve their maximum potential. The foundation's mission is to offer activities that are both enjoyable and educational while modeling a healthy lifestyle.
